::Oktoberfest::

This weekend we went to Oktoberfest in Snowbird with some friends! It was a PERFECT day on Saturday, the weather was perfect in the mountains and the leaves have just barely started to change. It was so nice to be out and about, enjoying the great weather and beautiful scenery.

We all decided to ride the Alpine Slide, so we got to ride the lift to get to the starting point. Here's our ugly feet, but pretty scenery :0

I had forgotten how fun the slide was! Brady and I raced, and he killed me... although I actually told him beforehand that i was just going to take it easy and enjoy the ride, but I guess he ignored that and wanted to go as fast as he possibly could...which is fun too!

Among the festivities there was a professional yoyo-er, a balloon guy, trampoline bungee jumping, zip-lining (which we decided we'll do next year!), a mechanical bull, little shops, lots of food, yodeling, acordian-ing, dancing, and beer! No we didn't drink the beer, although it was tempting because the mugs with the beer in them were really cool. Here's some of our pics!

We had so much fun and will definitely be back next year! Come with us next time if you're around :)

Do you?

Lately our life has not been the most interesting. Our Friday date nights consist of hanging out with cadavers in the Anatomy Lab and studying, which is actually really fun for us, but probably not so interesting to you. I am lucky to have a husband who isn't actually taking anatomy, but is willing to come to lab with me so I can re-teach him what I've learned which helps him refresh and recall what he's already learned, and it helps me enormously to be able to learn and memorize all the material.... and let's be honest, he teaches me more than I teach him (how does he remember this stuff from like 2 years ago?!). So that's about the extent of an update as we can give right now, sorry its not more interesting.

To spice things up a bit I decided to include a clip of Rob & Big so as not to leave you disappointed for coming all this way to visit our blog :)

(i have to put this not so good quality video on here because it says the other one is no longer available...but just in case it becomes available, i'll leave the other one up too because its a lot better.)

p.s. I thought this new background was going to be more orange, but its totally looking pink... we'll see how long it lasts when Brady sees it. I gets that's what he gets for never getting on our blog anymore!

And the winner is....

Ah yeah ah yeah..........
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!

GHOSTWRITER is the winner of the tv poll with a whopping 41% of the votes! I dug this little video up from youtube of Lenni's music video "You gotta believe". If you really watched Ghostwriter then you CANNOT forget this! The funniest thing about this ridiculous music video is that it was really cool in the early 90's when it came out. The proof is right in the beginning- it was played on MTV! You have to watch part of it (its kind of long) and you'll laugh your face off. Enjoy :)

Fall is fast approaching...

I have never been a fall/winter kind of person, but this year I find myself looking forward to the season! Lately, when I step out of our little home in the morning I can feel a bite in the air. Normally this would make be sad, since it means the end of summer, but this year its invigorating! That little chill is like an old friend giving me a personal little "good morning", and it makes me giddy to think of all that the season will bring!

Just some of the thoughts of fall dancing around in my head...
watching the colors change, warm sweaters, hot cocoa, toasty fires, brisk air, crunchy leaves, halloween, warm socks, pumpkin pie, decorations, boots, hot apple cider, caramel apples, carving pumpkins, the lovely smells in the air, the chill that sneaks in through the window in the morning, smoke coming from chimneys, walking through corn mazes, turkey, family, giving thanks.....

::Tagidy tag tag::

So I was tagged awhile ago by Kristi, and then recently by Leandra, and I am just now getting around to it. I feel like I may be missing a tag, so let me know if you tagged me and I never did it. Okay, get ready to know more than you ever wanted to know about me!

1)What is your full name?

  • Taryn Emma Hansen

2) What do you like to do in your spare time?

  • Read books other than text books, go to open anatomy lab and study (its actually kind of fun- nerdy I know), go to pilates class, hang out with family and friends, BLOG duh.

3) Name two of your biggest vices:

  • Otis Spunkmeir chocolate chip cookies
  • shopping

4) Name two of your biggest virtues:

  • No regrets, just things to learn from!

6) List 5 of your deepest, darkest desires (keeping it G-rated, of course):

  • To get into Dental Hygiene school and graduate
  • To be able to sew so that I could sew curtains for my home, skirts for my girls, and hem pants since I know there will need to be so many hemmed pants in our short little family :)

7) What do you consider a perfect day?

  • One in which there is TIME to do EVERY last thing on my list of things to do! Including shopping and finding amazing deals, playing with babies/kids, going to Spoon Me, exercising, going for a nice walk with perfect weather with Brady, and having a really good long conversation with Brady (such a girl answer, but its true)!

8) Name 3 songs that you know EVERY word to:

  • Hmmm, I know all the words to A LOT of songs. That’s what happens when you are the 6th of 7 children and grow up listening to all genres and eras of music all the time, so instead I’ll list some albums that I know every word to every song on the album that may surprise you
  1. Blink 182: _____ of the State CD
  2. Justin Timberlake: Justified (I was in high school and he was hot)
  3. Dixie Chicks- Wide Open Spaces, Fly, and Home Albums
  4. The entire Greese Soundtrack
  5. Weezer- Blue Album, Pinkerton, and Green Album (okay this one won’t surprise you if you know me)

9) What fictional character do you secretly envy and wish you could become?

  • Harry Potter

10) What's the first thought that pops into your head when you see yourself in the mirror?

  • “Okay, what can I do to fix this?” :)

3 fears

  1. Spiders and Bees (I’ve never met anyone that is as scared of them as me, and its only gotten worse now that I have a husband to kill them all for me)
  2. Calling people on the phone that I don’t know (which has also gotten worse since I can usually persuade my husband to do it for me)
  3. Having to talk to angry/mean people

(Brady wants me to put the times when he tries to scare me at night when all the lights are off, and its actually true. I do fear those times. I just really HATE being scared)

  1. My husband and my family
  2. My church
  3. Acai frozen yogurt

3 obsessions

  1. Acai frozen yogurt
  2. Antique stores (I always feel like I’m gonna find something really cool)
  3. Um, I don’t know what else. It changes all the time. I guess could add babies, clothes, and shoes to the list.

3 random facts

  1. The most common name in the world is Mohammed.
  2. When snakes are born with two heads, they fight each other for food.
  3. I know that this was meant for me to put random facts about myself, but I’m too tired to think of any.

::Trying to fit in::

So I made my first poll (to the right), mostly because I wanted to fit in with all the cool people that have been doing polls lately. I know this one is a little lengthy, but I'm not yet experienced in poll making, so don't judge me.

If your favorite show as a kid isn't up there, let us know what it was here in our comments! It's always fun to reminisce :)

p.s. you can vote for more than one!

Ready to hit the books...

We finally semi- set up our office (we haven't decorated or anything yet)! The biggest thing holding us back was that we didn't have a desk. Brady had been looking forever for a decent inexpensive used one, but it didn't exist. We contemplated buying one but they were all way too expensive for our non existent budget, then finally he found a nice one at a decent price! When he drove down to Santaquin to pick it up, turns out they were also giving us a filing cabinet and what I call a "second desk" that we can attach to the first to make it like a corner desk. This is perfect for us because now we'll both be able to use the desk at the same time! It was a really great deal, now we just need to find some cheap office chairs!

::Update::

The first week of school is over! There always seems to be an incredibly high amount of bumps and curves in that first week- I won't bore you with the long list, but I will bore you by going in to detail about just one of the more illogical ones. In my case, as a post-baccalaureate student, I wasn't allowed to add classes before the first day of school, and when I tried adding them after the first day, I apparently was also not allowed to add classes after the first day...so as a warning to anyone who is planning on being a post-bac student, you're not allowed to actually take the classes, basically you're just required to pay BYU money and then go home and do anything else besides going to school. Man I wish someone had clarified that to me before I decided that I wanted to continue my education.

Okay, so after many phone calls and meetings with heads of things, turns out I really am allowed to take classes. What a surprise. I'm so grateful that I get to have this opportunity to continue learning, but do universities and colleges really need to make it this difficult for young poor kids to get a higher education? We ARE paying (rediculously large amounts of money) for this right?

Okay, I'll step off my soap box and actually give and short update on us. Brady is taking a LOT of classes and is still a TA for Dr. Karren. He has some really tough classes and a full schedule, plus he has to teach class here and there. He's working really hard and I'm proud of him for taking this semester on and diving in head first. I haven't heard him complain at all about how busy and hard this is going to be. We're both excited because the end of his undergrad is getting closer and closer. (he plans to take to the MCAT in the spring and apply to med school immediately after)

I'm taking 3 classes, and I got a new job! I'm working for Linx satellite (who sells Dish Network) basically keeping track of all the paperwork and making sure it gets faxed into Dish on time, so that Linx doesn't get charged fees. I'm so grateful to already have a job again, and I'm really enjoying my classes.

We have been really blessed with how things things have worked out for us after I lost my job. I know this sounds so cliche, but it truly happened that everytime we were getting to the point that we'd have to be scraping pennies we receive acts of kindness that were set in motion before anyone even knew i had lost my job. A card with money would make it to our door, food would be given to us, and another grant or loan would finally come through, making it possible for us to buy books, pay tuition, pay rent, and pay all our bills (since it happens to be the beginning of the month)! Thank you for all for just being nice people, and doing nice things for us just because :) You don't know how much we appreciate it!
