I'm bringing home a baby bumble-bee...

Olivia's first Halloween!
Okay, technically her first halloween was last year, but this was her first time to dress up!
Of course she wouldn't wear her little antennas, but that's okay. She was still my cute bumblebee.

Who me?

We had big plans to go trick or treating in the neighborhood right by us, but it was raining, so we went to plan b. The mall. It was a mad house. We met up with my sis and her kids and had some fun!

Although she's not smiling in any of these pics, she did have fun :)
At one point she was flapping her wings over and over in B's face!

We let her eat one piece of candy, and she was in heaven.

And then it was time for bed. For her :)
The Mr. and I had our own Halloween celebration with a night in = delivery and a scary movie.

Happy Halloween!!!

Behind the scenes: I wanted to carve pumpkins, have some kind of awesome family costumes, go to all the ward Halloween parties, and do various other Halloween activities, but it just wasn't happening this year. Decorations consisted of candy corn garland, a candy corn wreath, and 1 uncarved pumpkin on our doorstep. We missed our ward playgroup outing to Gardner Village on Friday afternoon because I had stupid school (what kind of school makes you make up your Thanksgiving break???). Midterms all week, patients canceling, and not finishing Olivia's costume until Saturday morning. We missed the other ward party the Friday before because B had to work and her costume (as previously mentioned) wasn't finished. We then missed the primary Halloween party because I had a wedding reception, B was working that night yet again, of course, her costume wasn't finished. I hurried to finish her costume Sat. morning (with help from my sis), then we went to a wedding luncheon while B worked, only to get home at 5:30 and have it be raining. I started crying because I felt like such a bad mom. My poor baby didn't get to carve pumpkins, we missed all the parties, and now, after I had tried so hard to get this costume made, she wouldn't even get to go trick or treating. I have to laugh at myself, now! Looking back, she obviously doesn't really even know what's going on. Luckily B was sensitive, calmed me down, and had the idea to go to the mall. Even though it was a little crazy, I'm happy she got to do something, and that we got to be together as a family for one fun Halloween night!

Just remember Mrs. "Bad" Mom - she won't remember what she did on the younger years of Halloween. As long as there is at least one picture showing her you cared enough to dress her up (which you did; REALLY cute) then that's all that matters. You are a fabulous, adorable mother. Hope this week goes a little smoother for you :)

and yes, school is dumb. Mine is very much the same!

at least you had good intentions. AND you actually put a real costume together. we just threw some things together at the very last minute. but i'm sure our kids feel loved and that's all that really matters. thanks for the idea to go to the mall. i was happy we got to do SOMETHING. next year will be better.

I have holiday anxiety like this too. We are so busy and miss out on so much of the things that are really important in creating fun memories for kids. I beat myself up for not MAKING the time to take them to fall festivals or carve pumpkins, etc. I actually tried carving a pumpkin late Saturday night but I am not very good at it. The kids were kind anyway and said it was great. Sweet kids. :) Don't beat yourself up...you are a great mom and Livy is only 1. By the time she is old enough to remember your life won't be so hectic and you will do all the things you want to do. :)

I totally get that. I was way sad when we weren't going to be able to attend the ward party either and had no where for Owen to wear his costume. So my friend was nice and said she'd have us over for carving pumpkins and we could dress up our kids. At least I got a couple pictures. And sometimes, honestly, it's more for us anyway, right? But OH MY GOSH what an adorable costume you made for her. She looks absolutely darling! Way to be so talented and crafty!

That costume was adorable Taryn...good for you! When in the world did you fit that in to a busy week? Glad you guys took the kids to the mall. The most important thing is for them to dress up and show off a bit...making memories. Don't stress, the kiddos remember the simple things the best! Glad you and Brady had a little fun too.
Love you sweetheart, remember to be kind to yourself too. Debi :)

you are NOT a bad momma!! you did good! and her little costume was the cutest! I can't believe you were brave enough to take on making one for her with how busy you guys are! And I am glad Brady was sweet and able to console you about the whole ordeal, i am sure it can get a little overwhelming at times, trying to do everything you want to for olivia.

that is the CUTEST baby bumble bee ever! good job good momma! this year I felt bad because I had to drag Lily around to too many festivities between the kids' preschool parties, ward party, festivals, etc while all she wanted to do was get a good nap :) Don't be too hard on yourself, you will have many years to come (when she will remember and you won't be in school:)I don't know of many new moms in school full time that would take the time to make their babies costume! you are an amazing mom!
